Our Founders

Jackie Sanderson

Jackie established Sanderson’s Dance in 1976; this has now grown to be one of the largest dance studios in the UK with three dedicated centres and a strong team of 47 members of staff. She feels passionately that all children should have the opportunity to experience dance no matter what their background and hopes that Primary Dance UK will help to make that a reality.

Sarah Hawthorne

Sarah began working as a dance teacher in 2003 and took her passion for teaching a step further in 2012 when she qualified as a primary teacher; she has since taught across Key Stages 1 and 2 and now combines her passion for dance with her teaching role. She feels that all children should have the opportunity to enjoy dance as part of their education and benefit from the many positive effects it has on both physical and mental wellbeing.

I became a British Champion during my competitive career and then I became a full time teacher at the age of 16 and now enjoy passing on my knowledge to my students. I have teaching qualifications in 12 different styles of dance and I can’t wait to share my love of dance with you. Looking forward to seeing you soon!

Yasmin Roberts

I’m Yasmin and I am 23 years old. I have been dancing for a very long time, ever since my mum took me to my first dance class 20 years ago. I have competed in many dance competitions over the years in various different dance styles, I only recently stopped competing 3 years ago. When I was 14 I started to help out in different dance classes at the dance school in which I attended classes myself, this allowed me to gain more confidence and pick up lots of teaching techniques. I am now a qualified dance teacher in various dance styles and I do this as my full time job. Dancing for me triggers positive energy and good vibes!

Helen Houghton

Hi, my name is Helen Houghton and I'm one of the Acrodance choreographers at Primary Dance UK. My dance story begins at the age of 3 where I participated in various dance classes with Sanderson Dance and Fitness. Over the next 15 years I progressed my love for dance into the competition, examination and performance world, winning major championships in various dance styles. I performed at many high profile events and lots of shows. Gaining my teaching qualifications were the next natural progression which have enabled me to become a highly qualified teacher, adjudicator and lecturer in dance. At the age of 9 I began gymnastics and throughout the years I have taken many qualifications with British gymnastics and Acro Arts to become an experienced teacher. I teach many styles of dance, including Acrodance to classes, schools, small groups and on a 1:1 basis. I am looking forward to sharing my love of dance with all of you!
